WASHINGTON, D.C.- The Atlantic Ten Conference has recognized four University of Dayton Cross Country athletes on the conference's All-Academic and All-Rookie teams. Dayton senior
Owen Pukys merited conference All-Academic honors for his accomplishments both on the course and in the classroom throughout the season. Freshmen
Kamden Kramer,
Alex Bendaña, and
Addison Stephens all earned spots on the All-Rookie team for their performances at the A-10 Championships.
Pukys's recognition comes at the conclusion of a historic senior season in which he broke the school record in the 8k, earned his first-ever collegiate win at Western Michigan, and made the all-conference first team with a third-place finish at the A-10 Championships. He is the only runner in school history to break 24 minutes in the 8k, a feat which he accomplished both at the Louisville Cross Country Classic and at the A-10 Championships.
Kramer, the A-10's Most Outstanding Rookie, capped off a very impressive freshman year with the award. The Fairview, Pa. native's 8k PR of 24:41.5, set at the Louisville Cross Country Classic, ranks him 14th all-time in Dayton's record books. He was the first freshman across the finish line at the A-10 championships, as he finished 24th overall in 24:44.1.
Bendaña earned All-Rookie honors for his performance at the A-10 Championships, where he set a personal record of 24:59.3 to finish 43rd overall and as the seventh overall freshman. That time moves him into the top 20 all-time for the Flyers.
Stephens earned All-Rookie honors for her 38th overall finish at the A-10 Championships, where she was the fourth overall freshman in a time of 22:08.1. She capped off an impressive freshman campaign, highlighted by her PR of 22:04.2 at the Bradley Pink Invitational, which places her 24th all-time. This is her second recognition from the conference this season, as she was awarded A-10 Rookie of the Week honors for that performance.
