SPRINGFIELD- The University of Dayton track and field team concluded the opening week of it's 20225-26 indoor season at the Tiger Opener, hosted by Wittenberg University. It was an impressive way to start the season for the Flyers as the 4x200m team set a new school record, a feat which was followed up by the 4x400m group running the second fastest time in school history to cap off the day. UD recorded eight top-three finishes and ten athletes set new personal records on the afternoon.

HIGHLIGHTS

• The 4x200m team of Sydeny Workman, Jadyn Haywood, Simone Bessong, and Charlotte Deines ran a school record time of 1:38.94 to win the event.
• The 4x400 team of Mariya Washington, Workman, Lianna Shakoor, and Grace Felts won the race in a time of 3:51.10, the second fastest mark in program history.
• Bessong finished second in the 60m dash in a time of 7.48. She was one of four Flyer freshmen to make her debut in the event along with Gianna Lane, Chloe Hamilton, and Autumn Price.
• Junior Camryn Thompson and Sophomore Riley Yost took the top two spots in the high jump with personal best marks of 1.71m and 1.65m respectively.
• Sophomore Mia Gill ran her first collegiate 400m race, finishing in a time of 1:02.20.

NEXT UP
The Flyers will return to the track after the calendar turns to the new year. Their first competitions of 2026 will be on Jan.9 when the throwers go to the Falcon Early Bird Opener at Bowling Green State University and Jan.10 when the rest of the team travels to Ann Arbor, Michigan for the Wolverine Invitational, hosted by the University of Michigan.
