DAYTON - The University of Dayton baseball team kicks off the 2025 season this weekend with four games at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C.
Due to weather in the region, the schedule for the weekend has been changed. The FlyBoys now square off with Monmouth in a doubleheader on Friday, Feb. 14., and then take on Western Michigan in another doubleheader on Saturday, Feb. 15. Both days have a scheduled first pitch of 9:30 a.m.
New Skipper In Town

Scott Loiseau was announced the new head coach for the Flyers baseball team on June 24, 2024
- Loiseau accumulated 14 years as a head coach at NCAA Division II Southern New Hampshire where he holds a .696 winning percentage.
- During his time leading the Penman, Loiseau's squad made it to the NCAA Division II World Series at the USA Baseball National Training Complex five times, last doing so in 2022.
Bringing The Gem City Rivalry Back To Day Air Ballpark
- Dayton announced earlier this offseason that the Flyers will once again host cross-town rival Wright State at Day Air Ballpark, home of the Dayton Dragons, High-A affiliate of the Cincinnati Reds.
- UD and WSU played at Day Air in the 2023 season and broke the FlyBoys' attendance record in the process, as 6,743 fans watched Dayton beat the Raiders, 8-3.
Familiar FlyBoys
- Among the returning FlyBoys from a season ago are starting sluggers
Alejandro Cazorla and
Mason Dobie. Cazorla finished the 2024 campaign with a .306 batting average and 1.018 OPS, slugging nine home runs and driving in 33 runs in 44 games. Dobie started every game of the season and hit .290 with seven homers, 41 RBI and had an .841 OPS.

- The Flyboys have played at the USA Baseball National Training complex before, last traveling to the site of the NCAA Division II World Series in the 2017 season.
- Dayton went 1-2 as part of the USA Baseball Irish Classic, hosted by Notre Dame, defeating UMass Lowell, 13-8, and falling to William & Mary and Maryland.
FlyBoys Picked Sixth In A-10 Preseason Poll
- Dayton was picked sixth in the 2025 Atlantic 10 Preseason poll, the league office announced Wednesday, Feb. 12.
- The Flyers were slated just outside the top five, trailing No. 5 Davidson by five points. VCU and Richmond tied as the preseason favorite, each garnering 125 points.
- The Rams, who won last year's A-10 Tournament, received four first-place votes, and the Spiders had one. Saint Louis fell just one point short of the top spot but had the most first-place votes with five. George Washington was selected fourth with 104 points.
Scouting Monmouth
- Monmouth is coming off an 18-30 season with an 11-16 record in the Colonial Athletic Association under head coach Dean Ehehalt. Right-handed pitcher Alex Coutree was named All-CAA Preseason Honorable Mention.
Scouting Western Michigan
- The Broncos are coming off 32-23 record and 19-11 mark in the Mid-American Conference under head coach Billy Gernon. The series between UD and WMU is tied 1-1 all-time.
Home Opener
- Dayton welcomes Northern Kentucky to the friendly confines of Woerner Field at AES Ohio Stadium on Tuesday, Feb. 18 to open up the home campaign. The Flyers and Norse are scheduled to start at 2 p.m.
