#FlyBoys Square Off With Akron For Midweek Game On Tuesday

The FlyBoys And Zips Start Action At 2:00 P.M.

DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team travels to the Rubber City of Akron, Ohio to take on the University of Akron in a midweek showdown with the Zips on Tuesday, March 11 at 2 p.m. at Skeeles Field.

Another Weekend Winner
Dayton has won each of its last two weekend series thanks to a 2-1 series victory over Bryant last weekend. The FlyBoys rode a dominant pitching performace to a 7-1 win on Friday, outslugged the Bulldogs 10-8 on Saturday, and came up short 7-4 in the series finale.

Peguero The Ace
- Senior pitcher Chris Peguero looked every bit the ace on Friday afternoon, shutting down Bryant over seven innings of work. The Boston, Mass. native struck out seven and allowed just one run on four hits. Peguero also issued just one free pass via hit by pitch, not walking a single batter.
- The seven innings by Peguero was the longest outing of the season for a Flyer pitcher.

D-Mart Keeps It Rolling (Again)
- After earning a Player of the Week nod for his outstanding performance two weeks ago, Michael DiMartini has kept right on rolling at the plate for the FlyBoys.
- The sophomore hit .556 (10-f0r-18) in five games last week with a 1.899 OPS, slugging two homers, two triples, two doubles, driving in nine runs and scoring six more.
- DiMartini had at least one hit in each of the Flyers' games this week, including a three-hit, two homer game at Bellarmine to start the week.
- The Pittsburgh, Pa. native also stole four bases on the week and now leads the team in batting average (.424), runs scored (23), triples (3), home runs (6), RBI (21) and stolen bases (15).

By-You Bennett
- Sophomore Bennett LaPalm continues to shine in his relief role this season, picking up another win against Bryant to move to 3-0 on the year.
- The Bellbrook, Ohio native now has three consecutive scoreless appearances and struck out five batters in his last 3.1 innings.
- The southpaw has a 12.5 K/9 mark this season and has already pitched more in the first four weeks of the season than all of 2024.

Players of the Week
- The Atlantic 10 announced that FlyBoys earned player of the week honors on March 4, as sophomore Michael DiMartini earned Co-Player of the Week and freshman Rylan Lujo was named Rookie of the Week.
- DiMartini hit .500 with a 1.516 OPS, hitting three home runs, scoring 12 runs, driving in 10 more and leading Dayton to a 4-1 week. The Pittsburgh, Pa. native also went 10-for-10 in stolen bases on the week.
- Lujo continued his incredible start to his collegiate career, hitting .526 with a 1.524 OPS, driving in 12 runs on the back of four doubles and two triples. The Coconut Creek, Fla. native also scored seven runs, walked four times and stole three bases in three chances.

Dynamic Catcher Duo
- Dayton has relied on two sophomores to be their catching tandem for the 2025 campaign, and both are carrying a major offensive load at the plate.
- Ryan MacDougall is third on the team in hitting with a .360 average and has an OPS of 1.087, while Martin Howell is hitting an even .300 with a 1.067 OPS in nine starts.
- The duo has slugged five homers (Howell - 3, MacDougall - 2) and nine doubles (MacDougall - 7, Howell - 2) while driving in 26 runs (MacDougall - 17, Howell - 9).
