Baseball Opens A-10 Championship With No. 2 George Mason Tuesday

They Flyers And Patriots Play At 3 P.M. At Capital One Park

WASHINGTON, D.C. – The University of Dayton baseball team travels to Tysons, Va. for its third consecutive Atlantic 10 Championship appearance this week, taking on No. 2 seed George Mason on Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Capital One Park.

The Flyers enter the tournament as the seventh seed, winning the final spot on the last day of the regular season thanks to a 21-11 win over St. Bonaventure. George Mason went 20-10 in Atlantic 10 play, finishing runner-up to Rhode Island by two games.

DAYTON IN THE A-10 TOURNAMENT
- This season marks the 13th time in program history Dayton has made the Atlantic 10 Championship and the third consecutive season.
- The Flyers have an all-time record of 15-20 in the league's postseason tournament, winning the tournament for the first and only time in 2012.
- Dayton head coach Scott Loiseau is the first Flyer skipper to earn a spot in the conference tournament in his first year as head coach.

DIMARTINI - A LEAGUE OF HIS OWN
- Sophomore Michael DiMartini capped off a record-breaking regular season by hitting .533 with two home runs, five runs scored and four stolen bases against St. Bonaventure in the regular season finale.
- DiMartini became the UD King of Hits, Runs and Stolen Bases for a single season over the weekend, finishing the regular season with 93 hits, 68 runs and 37 stolen bases.
- The Pittsburgh native is the first UD baseball player to hit 10+ home runs and steal 30+ bases in a season, and will also attempt to be the first player in program history to hit .400 or better with double-digit homers.

FRESHMAN PHENOM
- Rookie Rylan Lujo has turned in one of the best statistical seasons for a freshman in program history in 2025, coming into the Atlantic 10 Championship with a .373/.563/.471 slash line with 16 doubles, two triples and nine home runs. The Coconut Creek, Fla. native has also driven in 54 runs and scored 49 while walking (21) nearly as often as striking out (24).
- Lujo has started every game this season, with 54 coming at third base.
- For comparison's sake, last year's Atlantic 10 Rookie of the Year was former Flyer David Mendez who slashed .342/.505/.442 while hitting nine doubles, two triples and six home runs. Lujo also has more RBI and runs scored than Mendez, and only trails in stolen bases.

FINISHING HOT
- Sophomore Martin Howell made the most of his 10 at-bats over the final weekend of the regular season, hitting .600 with two home runs, a double, six RBI and four runs scored.
- The hot weekend boosted Howell's season average to .269 and gave him seven long balls.

CHICK DIG THE LONG BALL
- The Dayton offense slugged seven home runs over the weekend against St. Bonaventure, bringing the Flyers to 74 on the season and jumping up to No. 3 in the All-Time single-season standings.
- Two seasons stand ahead of the 2025 squad all-time: Both the 2009 and 2023 FlyBoys hit 77 homers.
- This year's team is led by Michael DiMartini with 13 homers, and then a mix of Flyers chipping in. Rylan Lujo (9), Adin Zorn (8), Mason Dobie (8), Ryan MacDougall (8), Bobby Stang (8), Ty Mainolfi (7), Martin Howell (7), Dyrenson Wouters (4), Aiden Heberlie (1) and Alejandro Cazorla (1).

SPEED KILLS
- For the second consecutive season and just the fifth time in program history, Dayton has stolen 100+ bases in a season.
- UD has 121 steals as a team going into the Atlantic 10 Championship, tying for second most in program history. The Flyers also stole 121 bases in 2011 and set the record for steals in 2012 with 164.
- Four Flyers have 10+ steals this season, led by sophomore Michael DiMartini who has 37. Sophomore Aiden Heberlie has 20 steals, while the freshman duo of Rylan Lujo and Ty Mainolfi have 17 and 14, respectively.

SCOUTING GEORGE MASON
- George Mason has a record of 36-19 on the season with an Atlantic 10 record of 20-10. The Patriots are the No. 2 seed in the A-10 Championship.
- GMU has one of the most well-rounded teams in the league, hitting an A-10 leading (and fifth nationally) .328 as an offense and turning in a league-best 4.72 ERA. James Quinn-Irons leads six Patriots with batting averages over the .300 mark, turning in a .410 average while hitting 14 homers, 22 doubles and swiping 28 bases.
- The pitching staff has been anchored by two of the A-10's best, Connor O'Hara and Brandon Cassedy. O'Hara has a 2.98 ERA in 81.2 innings of work, striking out 81 and limiting opponents to just .230 at the plate. Cassedy has a 3.00 ERA and has struck out 72 in 75 innings.
