#FlyBoys Face Fordham In Key Series This Weekend

Dayton And Fordham Are In Contention For The Final A-10 Tournament Spot

DAYTON – After a quiet week with no midweek games, the University of Dayton baseball team returns to action on the road for an Atlantic 10 showdown with Fordham at Houlihan Park this weekend, May 9-11.
 
The Flyers currently sit in a tie for sixth in the Atlantic 10 standings with a record of 12-12, while the Rams are two games out of the seventh and final spot for the Atlantic 10 Championship with a record of 11-13.
 
Mother Nature Keeps Winning
- Last week saw two of Dayton's games affected by the weather, as the annual Day Air Game against Wright State was canceled, while two games of the Richmond series has to be altered due to storms.
- Mother Nature is back at it this weekend, as there is once again a poor forecast in the future for the FlyBoys.

Chasing History
- Two Flyers are attempting to etch their names in the UD record books with their 2025 seasons, as both Michael DiMartini and Dyrenson Wouters chase history.
- DiMartini is already the first UD baseball player to hit 10+ home runs and steal 30+ bases in a season, and will also attempt to be the first player in program history to hit .400 or better with double-digit homers.
- Wouters has a .430 average with 121 at-bats on the season, giving the junior a chance to join six other Flyers that have done so in the 117 years of the program.
- Dayton has had six individuals hit .400 or better in a season, with Ryan Fleming accomplishing the feat twice. The full list includes:

Speed Kills
- For the second consecutive season and just the fifth time in program history, Dayton has stolen 100+ bases in a season.
- UD has 106 steals going into its weekend series at Fordham and trails fourth place in the record book by seven bags. The top four stolen base seasons are: 2019 (113), 2024 (118), 2011 (121), and 2012 (164).
- Four Flyers have 10+ steals this season, led by sophomore Michael DiMartini who has 31. Sophomore Aiden Heberlie has 18 steals, while the freshman duo of Rylan Lujo and Ty Mainolfi have 13 and 11, respectively.
 
Double-Digit Dayton
- Dayton won its lone game over Richmond by a 10-2 final, marking the 16th 10+ run performance of the season.
- The Flyers had four doubles in the game, while Rylan Lujo and Adin Zorn each driving in a pair of runs.
- Freshman Ty Mainolfi finished the game 2-for-2 at the plate with a pair of walks, two runs scored and a career-best three stolen bases.
 
Strikeouts
- The Flyers finished with 14 strikeouts as a staff in UD's win over Richmond, setting a new high in Atlantic 10 play.
- Junior J.J. Gatti led with six strikeouts and Bennett LaPalm, who picked up his A-10-leading seventh win, had five. Jackson Judy finished with a pair of strikeouts and Lukasz Rondeau had one.
 
Scouting Fordham
- Fordham has a record of 21-28 on the 2025 season with an Atlantic 10 record of 11-13. The Rams have lost consecutive conference series against Rhode Island and VCU coming into the weekend.
- The Rams' rank No. 2 in the Atlantic 10 and No. 27 nationally in stolen bases this season, with two players boasting 25+ steals. Taylor Kirk has 25 steals in 29 attempts, while Daniel Bucciero leads the team with 30 in 34 chances. Fordham is hitting .283 as a team this season with an .803 OPS.
- Fordham's pitching staff has a 6.97 ERA on the season. The Rams strike out 7.48 batters per nine innings, and opposing hitters have a .282 average against them. 
 
On Deck
- Dayton returns to the friendly confines of Woerner Field at AES Ohio Stadium to finish out the regular season with a three-game series against St. Bonaventure, May 15-17.
- Saturday's regular season finale against the Bonnies will serve as the Flyers' Senior Day, with a ceremony honoring their seven seniors prior to the game.
