DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team is set for a midweek game against the Akron Zips on March 4 at 2 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
Dayton went 3-1 against Ohio last weekend, winning both road games and the second game of the home doubleheader. The FlyBoys also won a home midweek against Toledo last Wednesday.
Martin Howell and Grayson Carpenter were named Atlantic 10 Player and Rookie of the Week. Howell led the Flyers with 13 RBIs and 31 putouts. Carpenter went 6-for-15 and was one of three players with two doubles. John Delgado led the FlyBoys pitching staff with 10 strikeouts in 6.1 innings pitched.
SCOUTING AKRON
The Zips are 6-6, sweeping North Carolina A&T last weekend. Akron also played No. 14 NC State, where they fell 18-3. Akron was picked to finish 10th in the Mid-American Conference Preseason Coaches Poll.
Brennan Morgan leads Akron's batting efforts with a .359 batting average and five doubles. Elijah Griffith's 3.45 ERA leads the Zips with 2 wins and a .189 opponent batting average in 15.2 innings pitched.
LAST MEETING
Dayton is 7-3 against Akron, all-time, splitting midweek games last season. At home last April, UD won 6-4. Dyrenson Wouters went 3-for-3 in the win with an RBIÂ and a run scored. James Heller got the start, striking out one batter.
UP NEXT
The FlyBoys will host Maine for a three-game series on March 6-8. All three games are set for noon.
