DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team is hitting the road for a series against the Spiders in Richmond, Va.
The three-game series will take place on April 17-19. Friday and Sunday's games will be live on ESPN+. All three games of the series will be at 1 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT
The Flyers won Wednesday night's game against Wright State, taking the annual game at Day Air Ballpark, 9-5.
Back-to-back home runs from Bobby Stang and Dyrenson Wouters combined for three runs and gave Dayton its lead. Michael Smith Jr. also went 3-for-3 with three RBIs. The FlyBoys pitchers combined for 13 strikeouts, led by Carson Samuels' five punchouts.
SCOUTING RICHMOND
Richmond is 20-17 overall with an 8-7 record in the Atlantic 10. The Spiders went 2-1 against George Mason, splitting midweek games against James Madison and Old Dominion.
Dylan Winebrenner, a member of the Buster Posey Catcher of the Year Watchlist, leads Richmond with a .359 batting average, 33 RBIs and 11 home runs. Friday's projected starter on the mound, Chase Topolski, leads the Spiders with a 2.20 ERA and a .196 opposing batting average. Joey Giordano, Saturday's projected starter, has 44 strikeouts in 49 innings pitched, leading the team in both categories.
LAST MEETING
Dayton is 30-19 against Richmond, going 1-2 against the Spiders at home last season.
In the team's 10-2 win, Dyrenson Wouters was one of three FlyBoys to score two runs. Bobby Stang recorded an RBI on a sacrifice fly. Jackson Judy and Lukasz Rondeau combined for three strikeouts in two innings pitched.
UP NEXT
UD will play a midweek game on Tuesday, April 21, before taking on St. Bonaventure on April 24-26.
