DAYTON – The University of Dayton baseball team will welcome the La Salle Explorers to Woerner Field on May 1-3.
Friday's game will be on ESPN+ and feature Baseball Bingo for fans in attendance. The first five winners will win a drawstring bag of Flyer gear.
ABOUT THE FLYBOYS
Dayton is 25-19 overall this season and 9-12 in the Atlantic 10. The FlyBoys have won four straight after sweeping St. Bonaventure and defeating Akron in a midweek game.
The FlyBoys lead the Atlantic 10 in eight statistical categories. These statistics include: batting average (.302), hit by pitch (101), hits (461), home runs (69), home runs per game (1.57), on base percentage (.420), runs (371) and slugging percentage (.512).
Danny MacDougall leads the A-10 with a .413 batting average (10th in the country), 22 doubles (good for third in the country), .50 doubles per game (good for third overall), 76 hits (third nationally), a .500 on base percentage and 29 stolen bases (14th in the country).
The Flyers' weekend rotation will be Sawyer Jensen, John Delgado and Niklas Pavia. Delgado was this week's A-10 Pitcher of the Week.
LAST TIME OUT
The Flyers displayed a strong showing against Akron on Tuesday, defeating the Zips 11-4.
Danny MacDougall and Jason Bello led the team with three RBIs, tallying all six runs on home runs. MacDougall opened the bottom of the first with a solo shot and tallied the final run of the game on a two-run, inside-the-park home run. Bello hit a three-run shot in the first, contributing to the FlyBoys' six-run first inning.
UD pitched by committee, striking out 13 batters.
SCOUTING LA SALLE
La Salle is 20-26 overall and 4-17 in the Atlantic 10 in their first year back, after not having a team since 2021. The Explorers won a pair of midweek games against UMBC and Iona this week after being swept by Saint Joseph's last weekend.
Chase Swain leads La Salle with a .366/.488/.628 slash line and 54 runs scored. Owen MacDonnell, Saturday's projected starter, leads the Explorers' pitching staff with a 4.86 ERA and 46 strikeouts. Friday's projected starter, Titus Shay, has appeared in 14 games with a 1.93 ERA and 29 strikeouts.
LAST MEETING
UD has swept the last two series against La Salle, back in 2019 and 2017, good for a 20-11 all-time record against the Explorers.
In 2019, the FlyBoys won 7-6, 9-5 and 9-7 in the three-game series.
UP NEXT
Dayton will play nearby Wright State in a road game on May 5 at 7 p.m. at Nischwitz Stadium.
