2012 FLYER WOMEN'S SOCCER RECRUITS ANNOUNCED

DAYTON, Ohio - University of Dayton women’s soccer coach Mike Tucker announced the Flyers’ 2012 recruiting class today.

“Adding these top quality student-athletes is another step in the growth of our program to a top national level,” said Tucker. “Besides being outstanding soccer players they possess the individual qualities important to being a UD Flyer – outstanding integrity, commitment to academic excellence and a drive to achieve success.”

Ashley Campbell (Bradford, Ontario, Canada/Holy Trinity), Lesley Chilton (Eden Prairie, Minn./Eden Prairie), Alyson Smigel (North Royalton, Ohio/Walsh Jesuit), Emily Stenerson (Edmonton, Alberta, Canada/Strathcona) and Nicole Waters (Terra Cotta, Ontario, Canada/Christ the King) each signed their National Letters of Intent to continue their playing careers at Dayton.

“Our goal in recruiting this class was to add top quality to all parts of the field.  With the graduation of three outstanding defenders it is important to be able to either add newcomers or move current players to form a cohesive and effective defensive third,” said Tucker. “And this group will enable us to do so, seamlessly.  Ashley and Nicole, members of the Canadian National program, were two of the top attacking players in Canada and should step in immediately to enhance our already potent scoring abilities.

“Lesley, a Regional ODP standout and Alyson, sister of current freshman, A-10 All-Rookie selection Kelsey Smigel, are very talented midfielders, and both are also capable of being equally effective defenders,” added Tucker.

“Emily, another member of the Canadian National program, is a proven central defender at a very high level. All will play key roles in our success this fall and beyond!”

The Flyers finished the 2011 season with a 19-4-0 record, a third consecutive Atlantic 10 tournament title and third straight trip to the NCAA Tournament. UD graduates six players, including three starting defenders.

“In addition to these young ladies we will be announcing another group of incoming players who also bring outstanding and varied talents to our Flyer Family,” said Tucker. “This is an outstanding class to continue the tradition of Flyer excellence!”
