Colleen Williams - Senior CLASS Profile

OVERLAND PARK, Kan. –  University of Dayton women’s soccer player Colleen Williams  has been selected as a candidate for the 2012 Senior CLASS Award. She is one of 30 NCAA® women’s soccer student-athletes who excel both on and off the field were selected as a candidate.

To be eligible for the award, a student-athlete must be classified as an NCAA Division I senior and have notable achievements in four areas of excellence – community, classroom, character and competition.

Williams is the fourth UD women’s soccer player to be named to the Senior CLASS Top 30 since the award was started in 2007. Amanda Gallow was selected in 2008 and Kelly Blumenschein made the 2010 list.  Kathleen Beljan was a Top 10 Finalist in 2011. Dayton's Alex Torda and Ben Murray were both named to the men’s soccer list in 2009, Tommy Watkins earned the honor in 2010 and Jack Pearson was named to the Top 30 in 2011.

An acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School ®, the Senior CLASS Award focuses on the total student-athlete and encourages students to use their platform in athletics to make a positive impact as leaders in their communities.

The Senior CLASS Award winner will be announced during the 2012 NCAA Women’s College Cup championship. The Women’s College Cup will take place November 30 and December 2 in San Diego, while the Men’s College Cup will take place December 7 and 9 in Hoover, Ala.

The 30 candidates will be narrowed to 10 finalists midway through the regular season, and those 10 names will be placed on the official ballot. Ballots will be distributed through a nationwide voting system to media, coaches and fans, who will select one candidate who best exemplify excellence in the four Cs of community, classroom, character and competition. ?
