ROLFE AND STEBBINS AMONG FIVE FLYERS TO EARN ALL-CONFERENCE MEN'S SOCCER AWARDS

Nov. 10, 2004

Five Dayton Flyers were named to the men's soccer Atlantic 10 All-Conference Teams, the league announced Wednesday at its pre-tournament banquet in Washington, DC. Seniors Chris Rolfe and Tye Stebbins were named to the First Team, while Nate Darr and Omar Jarun placed on the Second Team. Goalkeeper Matt Troop earned a spot on the All-Rookie Team.

Rolfe, a senior forward from Kettering, OH, was named to the First Team after being an offensive force in Dayton's 8-3-0 run to second place in the conference. Despite playing in only 12 games, Rolfe racked up 24 points, the third-highest total in the league. He scored seven goals and set a UD single-season assists record with 10, to lead the conference.

Midfielder Tye Stebbins (Zionsville, IN) joins Rolfe on the first team. The captain garners First Team honors after finishing the regular season fifth in the conference in points with 20 and goals with eight. Stebbins, who just earned a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team for the second-straight year, also picked up a nod on the Academic All-Conference Team for his 3.884 GPA in International Business.

Junior defender Nate Darr (Centerville, OH) was named to the Second Team along with junior forward Omar Jarun (Peachtree City, GA). Jarun finished second in the conference in goals with nine and tied with Stebbins for fifth in the Atlantic 10 in points. The 6-5 transfer from Memphis also led the Atlantic 10 in game-winning goals with five.

Darr finished with five goals and three assists from his defender spot. The 6-1 junior started 16 games and was tied for fourth in the A-10 with three game-winning goals and was part of a defense that finished third in the league in goal differential.

Freshman goalkeeper Matt Troop (Peachtree City, GA) earned a spot on the All-Rookie Team. Troop sports 1.22 goals against average in 12 starts and has a 9-2-0 record on the year, with two shutouts.

The Flyers (11-6-1) have a bye to the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Championship, and will meet Temple, should they win, or the winner of George Washington-Rhode Island if Temple falls to La Salle. The quarterfinals are Thursday with the semifinals on Friday. Dayton will play the 1:00 p.m. semifinal regardless of opponent. The semifinal winners will meet Sunday for the Atlantic 10's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. All games are taking place at George Washington's Athletic Complex at Mount Vernon.
