PITTSBURGH, Pa. - The University of Dayton men's cross country team finished fourth out of seven teams, and the women placed sixth of seven Friday at the Duquesne Invitational in Pittsburgh.
Brian Gilchrist's (Novi, MI) paced the UD men with a time of 27.03, good enough for 13th place. Freshman Mike Connolly (Strongsville, OH) was the first rookie across the line, placing 14th (27:07). They were followed by freshman Billy Przbyla (Centerville, OH) who was 22nd (27:28), junior David Berning (Sidney, OH) who was 23rd (27:32), sophomore Eric Contreras (Centerville, OH) who was 24th (27:36), senior Zak Lewis (Loveland, OH) who was 28th (27:56) and freshman Dan Sammons (Johnstown, OH) who was 30th (28:03).
For the women, senior Michelle Griffin (Lancaster, OH) was UD's first finisher, coming across the line 17th with a time of 24:24. Griffin was followed by teammates sophomore Kiera Gottemoeller (Ft. Loramie, OH) in 18th (20:29), sophomore Amanda Tucker (Dublin, OH) in 21st (24:29), sophomore Tessa Mott (Columbus, OH) in 30th place (24:54), senior Ruth Hinde (Kettering, OH) in 35th (25:11), freshman Emily Deet (Gibsonia, PA) in 36th (25:15) and freshman Megan Watkins (Belair, MD) in 36th (25:33).
UD's cross country teams will continue their season on Friday, October 8 at the 50th annual All-Ohio Championships.
