A-10 ANNOUNCES MEN'S BASKETBALL SCHEDULING MODEL

May 26, 2004

BOCA RATON, FL -- With the additions of Charlotte and Saint Louis for the 2005-06 season, the Atlantic 10 directors of athletics have adopted a revised scheduling model as it pertains to men's and women's basketball. The directors, at their annual meeting at the Boca Raton Resort and Club, voted to maintain a 16-game Conference basketball schedule, while eliminating divisional play in favor of one 14-team division.

In men's basketball, UD will play each A-10 team once, and will play an additional game against Xavier, Saint Louis and Charlotte to complete its 16-game conference schedule.

"We are very pleased that Xavier, Saint Louis and Charlotte will be our scheduling partners," said Ted Kissell, UD Vice President and Director of Athletics. "Dayton and Xavier have a great history together, and our rivalry is one that commands a lot of mutual respect. Saint Louis and Charlotte are great additions to the Atlantic 10. Playing them home-and-home will bring two more quality teams to the UD Arena for our fans to see, and bolster our strength of schedule. Those are also two great markets for the University in terms of student recruitment and alumni contact."

Under the new regular season basketball scheduling model, each team will play three opponents twice and the remaining 10 opponents once, creating a 16-game league schedule. After the 2005-06 season, the sites of the games will change with those played at home being played on the road in 2006-07 and vice versa.

UD will play each A-10 team once, and will play an additional game against Xavier, Saint Louis and Charlotte to complete its 16-game conference schedule.

"We compiled a number of scheduling models so the directors would have many options from which to choose," said Atlantic 10 commissioner Linda Bruno. "The directors were emphatic in their desire to play every team at least once. The model they adopted best meets that goal."
