THREE FLYERS NAMED SPORTS NETWORK I-AA MID-MAJOR ALL-AMERICA; DOUG JONES NAMED FOR SECOND STRAIGHT YEAR

Three University of Dayton football players--one on offense, one on defense and one on special teams--were named to the 2004 Sports Network NCAA Division I-AA Mid-Major All-America team. Senior safety Three University of Dayton football players--one on offense, one on defense and one on special teams--were named to the 2004 Sports Network NCAA Division I-AA Mid-Major All-America team. Senior safety Doug Jones was chosen for the team for the second straight season. Senior center Robby Schwab and senior kicker Jason Resch were also named. UD's trio were part of a 13-player contingent on the team from the Pioneer Football league.

Jones was UD's leading tackler in 2004 (88 hits) and he tied for team honors in passes broken up (5). He was named First Team All-Pioneer Football League and was the PFL North Division Defensive Player of the Year. He is also a two-time ESPN The Magazine Academic All-American.

Schwab led a UD offensive line that paved the way for the UD ground attack to ranked 11th in NCAA Division I-AA, and lead the Pioneer Football League. A three-year letterwinner, he started every game at center this season.

Resch led the PFL and was tied for ninth in NCAA Division I-AA in field goals per game (1.30). He also led Dayton and was second in the PFL in scoring (7.6 points a game). For the season, Resch was 37 of 38 in PAT's and 13 of 19 in field goal attempts.

The Flyers were 7-3 in 2004. They were ranked #5 in the Football Gazette NCAA Division I-AA Mid-Major rankings, and sixth by the Sports Network. Doug Jones (Zanesville, OH) was chosen for the team for the second straight season. Senior center Robby Schwab (Middletown, OH) and senior kicker Jason Resch (Poland, OH) were also named.
