MIKE ANDERSEN WINS MOST OUTSTANDING ROOKIE OF YEAR AWARD FROM ATLANTIC 10

Oct. 31, 2005

Dayton, OH - Mike Andersen was named Atlantic 10 Most Outstanding Rookie award for his efforts at the Atlantic 10 Championships in Philadelphia. Andersen placed ninth in the event, which won him the award as well as landed him a spot on the All-Conference Team.

He joins Keven Tscholl (2000) as the only other Flyer to win the Outstanding Rookie award, and joins Rick Heitkamp (1998) and Dan Moroney (1999) as the only three Flyers in program history to be named to the All-Conference Team.

Andersen's time of 25:06 is the fastest 8K time ever run by a Flyer. The old record of 25:13 was set by Rick Heitkamp in 1998. This also means Andersen has four spots on the 50 best times list and, of course, number one on the Harrier Heroes list, which is for the top 35 all-time personal best times.

He has had a breakout freshman campaign, starting with a 15th place (Division I) in the Flyer 5K Challenge, his first event in college. He then went on to be the first Flyer across the finish line in each of his first six collegiate events.

Andersen also won an event, the Falcon Invitational in Bowling Green, OH. He outran the field of 56 in a time of 25:33, setting what was then a new freshman record (his latest time is now the current record).

Andersen and the Flyers head to the NCAA Great Lakes Regional in Bloomington, IN on November 12 for their next event.
