Dayton looks to win two consecutive games for the first time this season as it plays host to Cleveland State on Friday night. UD (3-2) also looks to push its record to 3-0 at UD Arena this season in the 7 p.m. matchup.
The Flyers are coming off a 63-59 victory over Miami Valley rival Wright State on Tuesday at UD Arena. Sophomore guard Brittany Holterman paced UD with a career-best 18 points off the bench.
Holterman was 7-of-10 from the field while collecting eight rebounds and dishing out four assists. She tallied 14 points in the second half during 15 minutes of playing time.
"She played hard and she was opportunistic," UD Head Coach Jim Jabir said. "She took the shots that they gave her and she went to the basket hard tonight. She has improved probably more than anyone else on our team. She is shooting it better and is attacking the basket better."
Senior forward Cara Wright added her second double-double of the season with 13 points and 10 rebounds as Dayton dominated in the paint. UD held a 26-18 advantage in points in the paint as well as a 39-30 edge in rebounding. Sophomore Nikki Oakland pulled down seven rebounds.
Dayton is among the nation's leaders in three-point shooting and assists per game this season asa team. As of Dec. 5, The Flyers ranked 18th nationally in three-point field goal percentage (now .368) and third in the Atlantic 10 Conference. UD leads the A-10 and ranks 33rd in assists per game (now 17.2).
The Flyers have shot 30 percent or better from behind the arc in four of their first five games this season. UD hit on 8-of-14 three-point shots for a season-best 61.5 percent shooting in a 80-57 win over Loyola. Dayton leads the Atlantic 10 by hitting at least one trey in 135 consecutive games dating back to Jan 2, 2001.
The Flyers look to gain some momentum for their season, but have played just five regular season games over the first three weeks of the season. In contrast, the UD men's team has already played nine games.
Dayton could begin to gain that momentum in the next stretch of its schedule as it has a at least a .500 record all-time against all four remaining opponents it will face before Christmas.
