MESA, Ariz. - The University of Dayton baseball team fell to #19/20 Notre Dame, Saturday 10-2 in the opening game of a non-conference doubleheader at HoHoKam Park.

Bobby Getty led the offensive attack for Dayton (3-3) with a 3-for-5 performance including a double and a run scored. With the win, Notre Dame improved to 4-1 on the year.
Five other Flyers had one hit a piece including
Brandon Godzik who had a double, a sacrifice fly and two RBI.
Junior William Benoit stretched his team best hitting streak to six games with a single in the fourth inning.
Stammen fell to 1-2 in the early part of the season after allowing 10 runs, only six of which were earned, on 10 hits. The junior righty walked struck out six Irish batters on the day while walking just one in 6.2 innings pitched.
He was relieved by redshirt sophomore
Phil Ernst who threw 1.1 scoreless innings and allowed just one hit.
The Flyers got on the board with a run in the first inning to open the scoring. Getty began with a one-out single up the middle. He then moved to third on a hard grounder through the right side by
Galen Schumm to bring Godzik to the plate with runners on first and third. The Preseason A-10 Player of the Year earned the RBI with a sacrifice fly to right to put the Flyers ahead, 1-0.
Notre Dame responded with three runs in the bottom of the first on two hits and two Flyer errors. After Brett Lilley was hit by a pitch to begin the inning he advanced to second when a pickoff attempt bounced off of his helmet. Stammen then struck out the next Irish batter and induced a hard ground ball to the right side and the following throw pulled UD's first baseman off the bag to put runners at first and third with one out. Craig Cooper and Cody Rizzo then followed with doubles to drive in the three runs, which put ND ahead 3-1 after one inning.
The Irish then built an 8-1 lead with five runs on six singles in the third inning. UD was once again snake bit defensively with two errors in the inning, which allowed a total of 10 Irish batters to come to the plate in the frame.
UD got one back in the fifth inning with a two-out RBI double by Godzik. The senior collected his team-leading eighth RBI of the season which drove in
Michael Massa from third base to make the score 8-2.
ND built its lead further in the sixth when Matt Edwards smacked a home run over the left field wall which also drove in Danny Dressman who reached on a fielding error. The blast put the Irish ahead 10-2 through six innings.
