NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A complete game performance by
Craig Stammen led Dayton to a 3-1 win in game one of a non-conference doubleheader with Oakland on Saturday at Shelby Park.
Stammen improved to 2-2 on the year after allowing just one run on four hits. The junior right hander struck out nine batters while not surrendering a walk and faced just 25 batters in the seven-inning contest.
Dayton (6-5) had six hits in the game including two each by
Joe McSoley and
Bryan Chandler. McSoley was 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs scored while Chandler was 2-for-2 with two RBI.
In a quick-moving game, UD got on the board first in the second as Massa pulled a pitch to left field for his fourth home run of the season. The blast put Dayton ahead 1-0.
Chandler helped the Flyers add another two runs in the sixth with a two-out two-RBI triple. McSoley and William Benoit scored on the play to give UD a 3-0 advantage.
Although Oakland hit a solo home run in the seventh, Stammen controlled the Grizzlies' bats for most of the day in his first complete-game performance of the season.
