NASHVILLE, Tenn. - Behind a complete-game pitching effort by
Luke Trubee, Dayton took game two of a non-conference doubleheader by a score of 3-1 with Oakland on Saturday at Shelby Park.
Trubee lifted his record to 3-1 after his third complete game of the season and second in as many starts. The junior righty allowed just one run on three hits while striking out five and walking none.
Dayton (7-5) had just five hits of its own, but made the most of its opportunities as
Galen Schumm led the way offensively. Schumm was 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI.
UD tallied solo runs in the first and second innings to build an early 2-0 lead. In the first, Schumm drew an one-out walk and scored on a single to center by
Brandon Godzik. Then in the second,
Craig Rohren walked and advanced to third on a pair of wild pitches.
Aaron Hepner then drove him home with a sacrifice fly to left to give UD a 2-0 advantage.
The Flyers added to their lead in the fifth with an RBI single to right field by Schumm which sent
Todd Presar, who entered as a pinch runner, home from second base with one out for a 3-0 UD lead.
Oakland scored on an infield single in the sixth, but Trubee faced just 24 batters in the seven-inning contest and the Grizzlies did not threaten for the remainder of the game.
Dayton and Oakland will play another pair of seven-inning games at Shelby Park on Sunday at 1 p.m. Eastern time (Noon Local.) Both games will be available on Gametracker on www.DaytonFlyers.com.
