NASHVILLE, Tenn. - A recently dormant Dayton offense came to life Sunday as the Flyers scored a season-high 18 runs to defeat Oakland 18-0 in the opener of a non-conference doubleheader at Shelby Park.
Dayton (8-5) has now won three straight games against the Grizzlies (0-5) and used every available positional player in the contest. Twelve different Flyers combined for 16 hits led by a 3-for-3 performance by
Joe McSoley.
McSoley had a total of eight RBI and scored three times while hitting a pair of three-run home runs. He leads the team with six home runs and 19 RBI. McSoley also has four multiple-hit games and his eight RBI are the most by any Flyer in a single game this season.
Four other UD players had two hits a piece.Â
Aaron Hepner was 2-for-3 with triple, a run scored and four RBI.
Galen Schumm and
Bobby Getty were each 2-for-3 with two runs scored while
Michael Massa was 2-for-5 with a run scored.
Dayton had a season-high four home runs in the game. McSoley had his second two-homer game of the season while
Roberto Ramos and
Michael DeLuca had their first home runs of the season.
A pair of pitchers combined for UD's first shutout of the season.
Kaleb Thompson improved to 2-1 on the year after surrendering just three hits in 4.0 innings pitched. He struck out three while walking just one. John Baird earned his first collegiate save after throwing the final three innings. He allowed just two hits and one walk while fanning a pair of Grizzlies.
