NASHVILLE - Dayton finished off Oakland with a 5-4 win in the finale of a four-game non-conference series. The Flyers won all four games against the Grizzlies on the weekend, which were played at Shelby Park.
UD (9-5) swept its first series of the season while OU fell to 0-6 on the year.
Dayton had seven hits in the contest as
Michael Massa led the way with a 2-for-4 performance which included a double and a run scored.
William Benoit was 1-for-2 with three RBI while
Galen Schumm has his first home run of the season for the Flyers. Also,
Brandon Godzik was 1-for-2 with two runs scored and an RBI.
The Flyers began the scoring in the first as Massa led off with a single and then scored on a ground out by Godzik to put UD ahead 1-0.
Oakland answered back with a leadoff homer in the second to knot the score at 1-1 and the game remained tied until the bottom of the third.
UD scored three runs on four hits to take a 4-1 lead as Schumm had a solo home run and Benoit hit a two-RBI single in the frame.
The Grizzlies got one back in the fourth as their leadoff batter singled and then beat out a tag at second base as the inning ended to cut the Flyer lead to 4-2.
Dayton retaliated with a run in the fifth as Godzik led off with a walk and advanced to third on a throwing error and a wild pitch. Benoit then drove him home with sacrifice fly to right, which put UD ahead 5-2.
OU made it a two-run game again in the sixth as their second solo home run of the game put the score at 5-3 in favor of the Flyers.
UD had Oakland down to its last out before the Grizzlies made it a one-run game with a solo home run to center. However, OU would ground out to the pitcher to end the game with Dayton on top 5-4.
The Flyers will return home to host Marshall on Thursday at 2 pm. It will be the first game at Time Warner Cable Stadium.
