FIVE FLYERS NAMED GAZETTE ALL-AMERICAN

April 11, 2005

Five Flyers, including senior Doug Jones, were selected for the Football Gazette NCAA I-AA Mid-Major All-American Team.

Jones, named Defensive First Team, also won the honors for best defensive back in 2004. In his final collegiate season, the senior from Zanesville, Ohio, recorded a team-high 88 tackles and intercepted two passes (one returned for a touchdown) on his way to being chosen UD's Most Valuable Player and the Pioneer Football League North Division Defensive Player of the Year. Jones finished the year with a career game, making a career-high 19 tackles and forcing three fumbles against San Diego.

Senior place kicker Jason Resch, who converted 13 of 19 field goal attempts and 37 of 38 extra points to lead the Flyers with 76 points, and offensive lineman Rob Schwab, whose blocking helped UD average 240 yards rushing per game, were elected for the Offensive First Team.

The Football Gazette also recognized wide receiver Ryan Wrobleski for the Second Team All-American after a season in which the junior averaged 94.8 total yards per game. Junior offensive lineman Ryan Winner was given Honorable Mention credit.

The Flyers finished 7-3 overall in the Pioneer Football League in 2004, securing UD its 28th straight winning season. Dayton returns six starters on offense and three on defense for 2005.
