DAYTON ROUTS THOMAS MORE, 12-2

April 27, 2005

DAYTON -  After a week long hiatus, Dayton returned to action with a 12-2 win over Thomas More in non-conference baseball action Wednesday at Time Warner Cable Stadium.

The win which was credited to Flyer starting pitcher

Luke Trubee lifted Dayton to 23-15 overall this season. It also tied Trubee with Mike Rolih as the program's record holder for wins in a season. Trubee is now 9-1 on the year after surrendering one unearned run on two hits while fanning four batters in 2.0 innings pitched.

UD's offense gave Trubee and the rest of the Flyer pitching staff plenty of support with 16 hits off nine different TMC pitchers. All nine Dayton starters scored at least one run in the effort and five added multi-hit games.

Sophomore Joe McSoley was 2-for-3 with his seventh home run of the season while scoring twice and driving in a pair of runs. Aaron Hepner was 2-for-3 and Craig Rohren was 2-for-4 as each scored once and had two RBI. Bobby Getty had a triple, drove three runs and scored once as part of a 2-for-5 afternoon while Galen Schumm added two runs and finished 2-for-3.

The UD pitching staff held down the Saints for most of the day surrendering just two runs on seven hits. After Trubee, lefty Kaleb Thompson came on to throw the third and fourth innings. He allowed just one run and one hit while striking out two batters. Junior Craig Stammen followed for the next two innings and surrendered just two base runners on a hit and a walk while striking out one in a pair of scoreless innings. Kyle Lindsay, Drew Chesebro and Rohren came on to finish the game on the mound and pitched one inning a piece. They combined to allow just three hits over the final three innings while fanning four TMC batters.

Dayton returns to action this weekend in Northern Virginia as the top two teams in the A-10 West face off in a three-game series. The first-place Flyers will take on George Washington in a doubleheader Saturday and a single-game Sunday. The action begins at noon each day and can be followed live with GameTracker on www.DaytonFlyers.com.
