DAYTON - University of Dayton Head Baseball Coach
Tony Vittorio announced the commitment of junior righthanded pitcher Jordan Gaietto to transfer from University of the Cumberlands (Ky.) Wednesday. Gaietto will join the Flyer roster this fall in preparation for the 2006 season.
"Jordan is a great late addition to our pitching staff," Vittorio said. "He is a good righthanded pitcher that has unlimited potential on the mound."
Gaietto, originally from Cincinnati Hills Christian Academy, spent one year at Miami Hamilton University before attending University of the Cumberlands in Kentucky last season. In 2005 with the Patriots, Gaietto was 2-2 with 5.95 ERA. He pitched 19.2 innings including one complete game victory while holding opponents to a .164 batting average against him. He also finished with 20 strikeouts and just 15 walks in seven appearances.
Gaietto joins recent transfers Cale Ort and Chris Rubio who will all begin play for UD in the 2006 season.
Dayton won a school-record 36 games in 2005 in its third 30-win season over the past five years under Vittorio. The Flyers placed second in the A-10 West Division with a school record 16 conference victories. UD also played its first season in recently completed Time Warner Cable Stadium and had plenty of success with an 18-4 record at its new home.
