MEN'S SOCCER OPENS 2005 SEASON SUNDAY AT CINCINNATI

DAYTON, OH - The University of Dayton men's soccer team kicks off the 2005 campaign Sunday at 1:00 p.m. against the University of Cincinnati at Gettler Stadium. The Flyers, under the direction of head coach Dennis Currier won both their exhibition tune-ups, over preseason No. 18 Ohio State and Valparaiso.

Senior transfer Lubomir Bogdanov (Sofia, Bulgaria), a three-time Division II All-America pick who followed Currier from Incarnate Word to Dayton, has scored twice in the preseason, both on penalty kicks. Bogdanov was taken down in the box and converted the PK for the game's first goal in UD's win over No. 18 Ohio State. Against Valparaiso, he was fouled in close range and tallied the second goal of the match on the ensuing penalty kick.

Omar Jarun (Peachtree City, GA) Nate Darr (Centerville, OH) and Richie Campbell (Cincinnati, OH) have the Flyers' other three goals this preseason, all on headers. Jarun headed in a long pass from junior midfielder Antti Arst for the game-winning goal against OSU.

Darr knocked home a restart from for the first goal of the Valpo match. Junior defender Richie Campbell (Cincinnati, OH) headed in a cross from freshman Caleb Lindemann (Carmel, IN) to cap the scoring.

The Flyers return 18 letter winners and eight starters from last year's 11-7-1 squad which finished second in the Atlantic 10.

Cincinnati won both of its exhibition matches, 2-0 wins over Marshall and Ohio State. UC hosts Wright State on Friday before the Flyers' visit.

Next weekend, UD travels to the west coast for matches against Sacramento State and UC Davis. Dayton's first home match of the season will by Friday, September 16, as UD hosts the Flyer Classic. Dayton takes on Marshall in the 7:30 night cap, following Duquesne versus Cal Poly at 4:00 p.m.
