Dayton, Ohio - The University of Dayton women's soccer team had its five game win streak snapped as they fell to Saint Louis University (8-3-2) 2-0 on Sunday afternoon at Baujan Field. The Flyers (6-4-3) move to 4-1 in the Atlantic 10 conference.
The Billikens gave the Flyers a scare just 10 minutes in when SLU defender Courtney Hulcer hit a booming free-kick from 25 yards out at the UD goal, but sophomore goalie Stacy Chew got a hand on it and knocked it over the crossbar.
The Flyers' best chance of the half came in the 27th minute when defender Annette Bonasso rebounded a Saint Louis corner, finding Kristen Persichini wide open in the box; but Persichini's shot went just wide of the goal.
The Flyers were outshot by the Bilikens 10-4 in the first half.
In the second half the Flyers couldn't seem to get much offensive production as they were only able to put up three shots against the Biliken defense. In the 65th minute Saint Louis midfielder Lauren Bozeski received the ball on the right side of the field and sent a cross to the opposite side where teammate Dee Guempel stood wide open and one-timed the ball passed Stacy Chew for a 1-0 lead.
The Flyers went down 2-0 at the 75:13 mark when SLU's Guempel found herself open once again putting a SLU cross in the back of the net, sending the Dayton women out of reach. UD was only able to put up three shots against the Biliken defense in the second half. The Flyers were outshot 23-7 for the game, their lowest shot total of the season.
The freshmen trio of Mandi Back, Colleen Gibson, and Caitlin Proffitt, that make up 40% of the Flyers offensive output, were held in check as they could only hit four shots between the three all game.
The Dayton women will look to get back on track on Friday (Oct. 20) as they host George Washington University at 7:30 p.m. E.T. at Baujan Field.
