PHILADELPHIA - Three Explorers reached double figures in scoring as La Salle beat Dayton, 62-50 in Atlantic 10 Conference women's basketball action on Friday at Tom Gola Arena.
The loss dropped Dayton to 15-7 overall and 7-4 in Atlantic 10 play while La Salle improved to 11-11, 7-4 A-10. The game also created a three-way tie for fourth place in the Atlantic 10 standings between the Flyers, Explorers and Saint Joseph's.

Junior Jennifer Strong led the Flyers with 20 points including 14 in the first half, but was the only UD player to reach double figures in scoring.
In contrast, three Explorers had 10 or more including Davineia Payne with a game-high 21 points. Carlene Hightower and Crista Ricketts added 13 and 10 respectively for La Salle.
The Flyers were also out rebounded 40-33 despite a game-high 13 by senior Cara Wright and five by Angela Cape.
La Salle jumped out to a 22-13 lead by the midway point of the first half behind the hot shooting of Davineia Payne from the outside. Payne hit all three of her shots from three point range on her way to 14 first-half points.
With the Explorers on top 27-13, UD outscored La Salle 21-8 over the final 7:27 of the opening half to pull within a point, 35-34, by halftime. Strong led the charge with 11 of her team-high 14 points in the first half during the run. The Flyers also hit four treys during the stretch from three different players (Strong, Ramsey and Cloxton).
Dayton out shot La Salle, 50.0 percent to 46.4 percent, and had fewer turnovers, 11-8, in the first half, but was out rebounded 16-11 and trailed from behind the arc, 6-5.
The second half saw both teams hold one-point leads in the early going before the Explorers pulled ahead, 49-42 with 8:35 left as part of a 10-0 run. However, Dayton would get no closer than five the rest of the way and were held without a field goal for nearly nine and a half minutes en route to a 62-50 defeat.
