PHILADELPHIA - University of Dayton second baseman
Galen Schumm was named the Atlantic 10 Baseball Player of the Week on Monday after leading the Flyers to a pair of wins over High Point.
Schumm, a senior from Rockford, Ohio, earned his first A-10 Weekly honor after collecting 10 hits in 20 at bats with five doubles, six runs scored and four RBI in four games last week. He had three multi-hit games including a 4-for-5 effort with a career-best three doubles in Dayton's 5-1 win over High Point on Mar. 5. Schumm also scored four runs in the Flyers' 19-8 defeat of High Point on Mar. 3.
Schumm earned Atlantic 10 First Team honors last season after leading Dayton with a .354 batting average, which ranked eighth in the conference. He was also named as `A Player to Watch' in the Atlantic 10 this season by Baseball America. The JC transfer has been named to All-Conference teams for Olney Central JC and Dayton while leading each team to a school-record number of victories over the past two years.
Dayton (4-5) returns to action at Butler on Tuesday at 3 p.m. ET. The Flyers then return home for four-games in four days this weekend. UD will play host to Oakland on Friday (2 p.m.), Saturday (1 p.m.) and Sunday (1 p.m.) as well as Urbana on Monday (2 p.m.).
