BASEBALL LOOKS TO EVEN 2006 RECORD ON TUESDAY AT BUTLER

March 6, 2006

UD closes out a stretch of four consecutive road games at Butler on Tuesday in a 3 p.m. contest that can be followed live with Gametracker on www.DaytonFlyers.com.

The Flyers (4-5) are coming off two wins in three games at High Point. UD outscored HPU 31-20 in the series as the Dayton offense came alive with a .351 average that included 17 extra-base hits and a .443 on base percentage. Dayton also turned four double plays on defense while holding High Point to just one run in the series finale.

Senior Galen Schumm was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week on Monday after collecting 10 hits in 20 at bats with five doubles, six runs scored and four RBI in four games last week. He had three multi-hit games including a 4-for-5 effort with a career-best three doubles in Dayton's 5-1 win over High Point on Mar. 5. Schumm also scored four runs in the Flyers' 19-8 defeat of High Point on Mar. 3.

Tuesday's meeting with Butler will also be a rematch of the largest comeback win in Dayton baseball history. Down 14-0 to the Bulldogs midway through the third inning, the Flyers rallied for a 21-17 win on March 30, 2005 in what was easily the most bizzare game in Time Warner Cable Stadium history. UD scored a run in the bottom of the third, four in the fourth, 10 in the seventh and six in the eighth to complete the come-from-behind win.

Despite being out hit 17 to 16, all but four of the 12 UD positional players who appeared had at least one hit. Four Flyers had multiple-hit games including three-hit days by Bobby Getty, Michael Massa and Bryan Chandler. Getty was 3-for-6 with three RBI, five runs scored and was just a single shy of a cycle. Massa finished 3-for-4 with a double, home run, walk, hit by pitch, three runs scored and two RBI. Chandler was 3-for-4 with a double, three runs scored and three RBI.

Seven different Flyers were plunked in the comeback marking the fourth most in NCAA Division I history. Also four batters were hit in the seventh inning alone, which was the third most in a single-inning of a NCAA game.

Later this week, the Dayton returns home for four games in four days. UD will host Oakland in three games, March 10-12. Dayton also added a game against Urbana on Monday.
