MEN'S TENNIS ANNOUNCES 2006 RECRUITS

June 17, 2006

Dayton, OH -  After placing fourth in the 2006 Atlantic 10 Championships and losing just one senior, the University of Dayton men's tennis team has filled out its roster for the upcoming season. Adding plenty of depth, head coach Steve Brumbaugh has announced formal commitments from five incoming freshman. This will, no doubt, add considerable energy and skill to an already young Flyer bunch. The class of 2010 will consist of two national letter of intent signees along with two additional recruits.

When school resumes in August, Dayton will roll out the welcome mats for incoming freshmen Matthew Sherman and Michael Rohana, who both signed national letters of intent this past spring.

Rohana, from Cathedral High School in Indiana, will join the team with a laundry list of high school honors. A four-year all-state performer, his high school squad also won the 2005 Indiana State Championship. Rohana was a high-honor roll student, finishing his career ranked ninth in the Midwest region.

Sherman, fresh out of Nepean High School in Ottawa, Ontario, comes to UD with a long list of prep accolades as well. In his prep career he was ranked as high as eighth in the province of Ontario and was the number-one junior tennis player in Ottawa. He was named team MVP following a standout senior year at first singles.

Rounding out the recruitment class were two additional commitments from incoming freshmen Tom Graul, Wes Hartig and Ryan Carpenter. Graul was a state qualifier for Alter High School in Dayton, and was named First Team Division II All-Area by the Miami Valley Tennis Coaches Association. Hartig, a two-time state runner-up, comes to UD from Wahlert High School in Dubuque, Iowa. Carpenter, ranked fifth in singles in Northeast Ohio, joins the Flyers from Hoover High School in North Canton, Ohio.

The team will open the 2006 fall season on September 15 when the Flyers compete at the Toledo Invitational.
