VOLLEYBALL TO HOST ALUMNI MATCH SATURDAY AT UD RECPLEX

Aug. 15, 2006

The UD volleyball team will take to the court for the first time in 2006 on Saturday during its 2nd Annual Alumni Match, which is open to the public. The current UD players will take on some of the best ever to wear the Red and Blue at the RecPlex beginning at 3 p.m.

Saturday's alumni match is part of two Alumni Reunions planned for this Fall. The preseason Alumni Match is being held at the RecPlex due to University Orientation. Fans and Alumni are encouraged to park in C or S2 parking lots. Warm-up begins at 2 p.m. with first serve scheduled for 3 p.m. Among the former Flyers expected to play for the Alumni this Saturday are former All A-10 picks Shannon Gardner, Erin Treadway, Susan Westbrock and Kelly Scott.

The Volleyball Program would also like to invite the alumni to back to see the Flyers take the court against Duquesne on November 10th at 7 p.m. and Saint Louis (Senior Night) on November 11th at 5 p.m. All attending alumni will receive free admittance and will be recognized during the Saturday match. Both games will be held at Frericks Center, with a reception after the Friday night match in Frericks. Again, families are invited to attend as well.

Over the past three seasons, Coach Tim Horsmon and the Flyers have won the Atlantic 10 Tournament Championship and earned their way to the NCAA Tournament. The 2003 season also marked the first A-10 Championship and NCAA berth in Dayton history as UD advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Tournament.

In 2004, Flyers added a brand new volleyball specific scoreboard to Frericks Center, which includes game-by-game scores through out the duration of the match. Also in 2004, the Frericks Center began a facility upgrade to include new lighting over the volleyball court, new and refurnished seating, as well as a graphics package with new championship banners.

In 2005, UD earned its fifth consecutive 20-win season with a 24-11 overall record and became the just the fourth school ever to win three-straight Atlantic 10 Championships. The program also boasted the A-10 Player of the Year for the third straight season and its fourth AVCA Honorable Mention All-America honor in the last three years. The Flyers also won 19 consecutive matches at one point, which was the 11th longest winning streak in the nation this season and paved the way for UD's fourth-ever Atlantic 10 Regular Season Championship.
