FLYERS SHOOT DOWN THE FALCONS 5-0 IN EXHIBITION

Aug. 18, 2006

Dayton, Ohio -  The Dayton Flyers women's soccer team looked impressive in their 2006 debut, dropping Bowling Green State University 5-0 in an exhibition game on Friday night at Baujan Field. A total of 25 different UD players saw action on the field, taking just as many shots.

"We are having such a great preseason, and we are pleased with the performance of all of our players so far," said head coach Mike Tucker. "We have a lot of good players this year and a deep squad, so it is exciting to be able to do a lot of creative things out there on the field."

The UD women got on the board 18 minutes into the game as junior midfielder Allie Foust headed in a corner kick taken by sophomore Annette Bonasso.

Just five minutes later the Flyers struck again when sophomore Anne Mariscalco launched a shot into the upper right hand corner from 25 yards out over the extended hands of Bowling Green goalie Tiffany Hansen.

UD struck for a third goal with only 2 minutes remaining in the half on another header by the lone Senior Jaime Monahan. The Flyers dictated most of the play during the first half, out-shooting the Falcons 13-0.

Play in the second half seemed to slow down a bit, but the Flyers were not finished. Freshman forward Mandi Bauml showed signs of brilliance in the attack, netting in the fourth goal of the night with a shot in the top left corner of the goal from 18 yards out after 33 minutes of play in the second half.

Junior Natalia Walters rounded out the scoring on the night in the 81st minute by putting in a rebound that was saved off the post.

The Flyers will play their final exhibition match on Sunday August 20 against Northwestern at noon at Baujan Field as a part of a double-header with the men's team. The UD men's soccer team will face Bowling Green at approximately 2:30.
