DAYTON, Ohio - NASCAR and soccer fans can experience Mark Martin's AAA No. 6 Ford Fusion show car and a virtual NASCAR simulator from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, Sept. 22, at the University of Dayton's Baujan Field, which is located behind the former PAC.
The life-sized replica of the car Martin drives in NEXTEL Cup races and the NASCAR simulator are free and open to the public. However, the simulator is open only to anyone having a valid driver's license or college ID.
The UD women's soccer team kicks off Atlantic 10 play at 5:30 p.m. that evening against Xavier. The UD men battle Wright State for a spot in the National Soccer Coaches Association Great Lakes Region Top 10 immediately following the UD women's game. Wright State was ranked 10th in the region in the latest poll released Sept. 12.
Tickets cost $5 for adults and $3 for college students with ID and younger. Groups and soccer teams that pre-register by calling 937-229-4861 can purchase adult tickets for $3 and youth tickets for $1. One ticket is good for both games.
"Not every NASCAR fan gets a chance to attend a race. This is a way to bring NASCAR to this group," said Ray Keyton, AAA Miami Valley executive vice president. "The simulator really gives a feel of what's it like to drive a racecar. Attendees will have the chance to have their picture taken with the official No. 6 car. With the right modifications, the No. 6 show car could be racing this weekend."
The display serves as a grassroots extension of AAA's Roush Racing, International Speedway Corporation and Indianapolis Motor Speedway sponsorship involvement. AAA serves as the primary sponsor of Mark Martin's No. 6 Ford Fusion, and serves as the "Official Auto Club" of 11 International Speedway Corporation racetracks.
