FLYERS CLOSE OUT BIG WEEKEND WITH 3-0 SWEEP OF TENNESSEE TECH

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - A 14-kill effort by junior Jamie-Lee Richards led Dayton past Tennessee Tech, 3-0 (30-23, 30-27, 30-23) to wrap up play at the Courtyard by Marriott Airport East Classic on Saturday. The win lifted the Flyers to 5-1 entering a four-match homestand which begins Wednesday against #16 Purdue at 7 p.m. ET.

Richards collected a season-best 14 kills on just 28 attempts while hitting .429 to go along with two blocks and two digs.

Senior All-America candidate Faye Barhorst finished with 10 kills and five blocks of her own. She now has 1,401 career kills, which is just two shy of moving into third place all-time at UD.

Redshirt freshman Chauntay Mickens hit .385 with eight kills and five blocks as Dayton dominated the front line throughout the match.

Redshirt sophomores Erin Scroeder and Chauntay Mickens split the setting duties for the Flyers. Schroeder dished out 27 while Markowski had 13 as Dayton out hit Tennessee Tech in all three games.

Sophomore Nicole Bateman saw her string of three consecutive double-doubles come to an end, but led all players with 15 digs and tallied five kills.

The victory along with a 3-1 win by Arizona over Louisville forced a three-way tie for the championship of the Courtyard by Marriott Airport East Classic. Bateman and Barhorst were named to the All-Tournament team. The honor was the first of the season for Bateman and the second straight for Barhorst.
