The Indianapolis Colts are in Super Bowl XLI and UD offensive lineman Luke Robinson gives his analysis on the team.
Indianapolis Colts - By Luke Robinson
Offense: While all the focus is on Peyton Manning, the Colts ground attack has largely gone unnoticed. Out rushing their opponents by an average of 60 yards per game, the Colts ground game is essential for the success. But in the end, it all comes to down to Peyton Manning's leadership, and there are few who do it better than Manning.
Grade: A-
Defense: They call Bob Sanders "the eraser" and there's no better word to describe what this defense has done to opposing offenses during the playoffs. From the worst defense in the league to the best of all the playoff teams, this is a turn around that no one saw coming. Zero 100 yard rushing games against them yet, while playing Larry Johnson, Jamaal Lewis, and the tandem of Corey Dillon and Laurence Maroney, the play of this defense has truly been fun to watch.
Grade: B
Special Teams: With the exception of Adam Vinatieri, the play of the Colts special teams has been horrendous in the playoffs. This is especially true when talking about the coverage teams. The Patriots Ellis Hobbs ripped off long run after run on every kickoff and punt. For the Colts to win the Super Bowl, they must tackle and improve their play considerably on coverage teams, especially with a whole new animal coming to play in Devin Hester. However, if the game comes down to field goals, there is no one better in the league and possibly ever than Adam Vinatieri.
Grade: C+
Coaching: Similiar in their approach to football, Lovie Smith and Tony Dungy are one in the same in their coaching styles and as people. However, Dungy has been around much longer than Smith and frankly the job he did last week against the great Bill Belichick was nothing short of masterful.
Grade: A
Intangibles: The intangibles of both teams are the primary reason they are here, and by no coincidence either with Tony Dungy and Lovie Smith leading these squads. With the Indianapolis offense finally clicking and the inspired play of the defense, the Colts are on a roll. If the coverage teams show up, this will be one tough team to beat.
