CSTV/AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll
Atlantic 10 Update
The University of Dayton volleyball team remained steady at No. 17 in the latest CSTV/AVCA Top 25 Coaches Poll on Monday. The Flyers, which own the best record in the nation at 21-1 overall and 8-1 in A-10 play, won both of their matches last week behind the strong play of setter Erin Schroeder who was also named Atlantic 10 Player of the Week on Monday.
Although Dayton maintained its No. 17 ranking for the second week in a row, UD moved from 460 votes last week to 514 on Monday. UD has the best record in the nation and had the best start in modern school history with 21 consecutive victories to begin the season.
UD earned a school-record 749 votes while rising to an all-time high of No. 12 in the Oct. 15 Poll. The Flyers had increased the number of votes from zero in the Preseason Poll to 749 in the eighth ranking of the year. Overall, the Flyers have been ranked for 10 consecutive weeks.
The Flyers started the season no votes in the Preseason Poll and then picked up two votes on Aug. 27. After wins over then-#17 Purdue, Utah and North Carolina, Dayton was ranked 23rd with 169 total votes on Sept. 3. On Sept. 10, the Flyers were ranked No. 21 with 290 votes and improved to No. 18 with 423 votes on Sept. 17. UD moved up to No. 16 on Sept. 24 with 527 votes and bumped up to No. 15 on Oct. 1 after picking up 593 votes. The Flyers earned 655 votes on Oct. 8 to be ranked No. 14.
Dayton has recorded 3-0 sweeps in 10 of their last 15 matches and 14 times in 24 matches overall this season including seven of 11 in conference play. UD has also rebounded from a 1-2 deficit on four occasions this season to win in five games.
Redshirt junior Erin Schroeder earned her first Atlantic 10 Player of the Week honor on Monday after leading the Flyers to Atlantic 10 Conference victories at Duquesne and Saint Louis. She helped UD out hit the competition .278 to .192 by averaging 12.88 apg and 2.25 dpg.
The Flyers recorded a kill on over 42 percent of her sets in a four-game win over Duquesne on Friday. Schroeder dished out 60 assists as Dayton hit .319 overall while adding eight digs and three kills in the win. She finished with 43 assists, 10 digs and two blocks in a 3-1 win over Saint Louis on Sunday. Schroeder moved into fifth place all-time in Dayton history on the weekend with 2,575 career assists.
The Flyers will take on three straight opponents from the Horizon League beginning on Wednesday with a trip to face backyard rival Wright State at 7 p.m. ET. UD will also take on Youngstown State on Saturday (2 p.m. ET) and Cleveland State on Sunday (1 p.m. ET). All three matches can be followed with Gametracker at www.DaytonFlyers.com.
