Bloomington, IN - The University of Dayton cross country program wrapped up its fall season on Saturday afternoon at Indiana University. The men's team finished up in 16th place overall while the women's squad ended up 22nd, but the future is bright for the Flyers as the team was once again led by a host of freshmen.
After being named Most Outstanding Rookie at the Atlantic 10 Championships two weeks ago, Flyer freshman Matt Lemon broke his second school record this year. Lemon, who already owns the freshman 8K record, now stands atop the 10K race standings as well, besting junior Mike Andersen's time of 31:59 from a year ago at Bowling Green. It was the fifth consecutive meet Lemon has come in first for the Flyers; he finished 24th overall in a time of 31:33.
Coming in second was another freshman, Chris Lemon, who took 48th for Dayton in 32:04. This Lemon's time was good for third all-time on the school's 10K list.
Senior Billy Przybyla finished third for the Flyers (88th overall, 33:09) at the meet and claimed a top-ten time on the school's 10K list as well.
Rounding out the scoring for the men were juniors Tim Kaelin (138th overall, 34:20) and Mike Peters (147th overall, 34:29).
On the women's side, it was two freshmen leading the pack as well. Brigitte Sherman finished the 6K race first for the Flyers, registering a time of 22:43 and finishing 63rd overall.
Another rookie, Liz Coorey, came in 99th for Dayton with a time of 23:14.
Junior Anne Oltman finished third for the Flyers and 115th overall in a time of 23:25. Sophomores Kristin Terry and Alex Miles also scored for Dayton at the meet. Terry finished 137th overall in a time of 23:47, while Miles came in right behind her in 23:50 to finish 143rd.
