PHILADELPHIA - Atlantic 10 commissioner Linda Bruno announced Tuesday the Commissioner's Honor Roll for the Fall 2006 semester, honoring each student-athlete in the Atlantic 10 with a 3.5 grade point average or better. The list included 108 University of Dayton student-athletes, which is tied for the most by any single school on the 1,168 member list for Fall of 2006.
"It is an honor to recognize these student-athletes who truly exemplify what the college experience is all about," Bruno said. "Their commitment to excellence on and off the playing field is inspiring and should serve as an example to all."
UD was tied with Duquesne atop the list as the schools with the most honorees at 108 each. Dayton competes in just 15 of the 17 Atlantic 10 sponsored sports, but was first on the list behind a group that included 22 student-athletes with a perfect 4.0 GPA during either the 2006 Spring of Fall semesters.
The University of Dayton Office of Academic Services of Student-Athletes and the Office of the Provost recently honored all UD student-athletes with a GPA of 3.5 or higher at an Awards Dinner on Feb. 7 prior to the Flyer men's basketball game against Fordham at UD Arena. Junior football player Brandon Cramer and senior softball player Ellie Malchow were also honored with the Presidential Outstanding Scholar-Athlete Award during the ceremonies.
