DAYTON, Ohio - A three-point shot with 1.4 seconds left on the clock lifted Dayton to a 78-77 Atlantic 10 victory over Saint Joseph's Saturday on Senior Day at UD Arena.

The Flyers (11-16, 6-6 A-10) won their second straight game overall and third straight at home after outshooting the Hawks (15-11, 7-5 A-10) 44.4 percent to 39.3 percent from the field. UD also held a 47-39 lead in rebounding as well as 30-22 edge at points in the paint to overcome a school-record 33-of-47 shooting from the free throw line by SJU. Dayton was 16-for-19 from the free throw line on the afternoon.

Senior Jennifer Strong led the Flyers with 18 points on 8-for-19 shooting to go along with six rebounds. She was followed by 13 points from Kathy Guin who added three assists.

Junior Nikki Oakland collected a game-high 10 rebounds while freshman Kelly Keil had nine boards to go along with six points off the bench. Fellow junior Karah Cloxton led all players with six assists while scoring nine points of her own. The Flyer guard hit a layup and dished out an assist in the final 32 seconds of play before dribbling the length of the court to setup the game-winning basket for UD.

Ayahna Cornish scored a career-high 38 points to lead the Hawks. She finished with a SJU individual game-high 21-of-27 from the free throw line on the day. Whitney Ffrench added 12 points for the Hawks.

Kathy Guin started the scoring for the Flyers a minute into the game, connecting on an eight foot jumper. Dayton held Saint Joseph's with out a field goal until 16:30 in the first half when Whitney Ffrench put the Hawks into the lead on a layup.

Strong defense kept both teams from scoring for the next two minutes until Jen Oyler hit a 3 pointer for the Hawks increasing the teams lead 6-2. UD did not allow the Hawks lead for long, as a three from Karah Cloxton, jumper by Nikki Oakland and a layup by Jennifer Strong gave Dayton a five point lead with the score at 11-6 with 11:34 to play in the first session.

The Flyer defense held the Hawks scoreless for more than four minutes and stretched their lead with 9-0 run until Brittany Ford drove to the basket for a layup making the score 13-8. Saint Joseph's tried to battle back with baskets from French and Cornish as the two teams traded baskets back and forth for the remainder of the half, but Dayton held a 41-36 leading going into the locker room.

Jennifer Strong led the Flyers in points at the half with 9 while St. Joseph's was lead in scoring by Ayahna Cornish with 10. SJU made 10-of-17 free throws in the first half of play while UD was a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe.

The Hawks were forceful in the second half and pulled within three points with the baskets made by Erica Pollock and Timisha Gomez, making the score 47-44 at 15:47. The surge from Saint Joseph's didn't last long as the Flyers pulled away to increase the lead to eight with 9:50 left to play in the game. However SJU wasn't going to give up, tying the game 64-64 with a jumper at 6:54. Much needed points from Brittany Holterman and Kelly Keil pushed UD ahead by 3 with 4:17 to play at 70-67.

Saint Joseph's kept the game close pulling within one point at 1:17 and again at 45 seconds behind free throw from Cornish. Foul trouble for Dayton and Cornish hitting 6-of-6 from the line gave the Hawks a two point lead with 24 seconds left. Kiki Lund answered with a mid-range jumper on the left side off a feed from Karah Cloxton to even the score at 75-75. Another Dayton foul and two free throws from French put SJU ahead with 11 seconds left to play.

The Flyers inbounded the ball to Karah Cloxton who dribbled the length of the court and setup the offense from the right side. She then fed the ball to Kiki Lund at the top of the key, who slid it over to Kathy Guin. The UD junior point guard did not hesitate in drilling the game-winning three-point shot from the left side to give Dayton a 78-77 victory.
