BASEBALL RESUMES SEASON WITH THREE-GAME SERIES AGAINST HIGH POINT

Feb. 19, 2007

Dayton looks to continue its season this weekend with a three-game series against High Point. The series between the Flyers and Panthers has been relocated to First Horizon Park in Greensboro, NC on Friday (2:30 p.m. ET), Saturday (2:30 p.m. ET) and Sunday (1:00 p.m. ET). All three games can be followed with Gametracker on www.DaytonFlyers.com.

The Flyers will return to action for the first time in 12 days this weekend in North Carolina after wintry conditions forced the cancellation of last Saturday's doubleheader with Youngstown State in Nashville, Tennessee. UD will be playing just its fourth game this season in Friday's series opener while High Point will take to the diamond for its eighth game of the year.

Last season, UD took two of three games at High Point while outscoring the Panthers 35-16. Michael Massa was 5-for-13 with four runs scored and five RBI while Bobby Getty finished 6-for-13 with five runs scored and five RBI against HPU.

Dayton will be looking for its first win of the season after dropping all three games of a season-opening series at Wofford last weekend. Despite the three losses, redshirt sophomore Jeff Mercer got off to a solid start in his return to the lineup after sitting out all of the 2006 season.

Mercer was named the Atlantic 10 Player of the Week after a combined 7-for-12 (.583) with five doubles, three RBI and two runs scored on the weekend. He finished with a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .615 on base mark to earn his first A-10 weekly honor. Mercer hit .279 with four doubles, four runs scored and 11 RBI during 36 games played in 2005.
