CINCINNATI, Ohio - The University of Dayton track and field team finished 11th out of 15 at the 2007 All-Ohio Championships finishing with a total of 23 points on Saturday.Three school records were broken as nine Flyers recorded career bests at Gettler Stadium.
Katie DeVault's broke UD's pole vault record yet again as the freshman cleared a height of 10-00.00. DeVault held the previous school pole vaulting record at 9-06.25, which she recorded last week at the Miami Invitational.
Amy Kremer was also among those Flyers to break a school record at the meet. Kremer placed fourth overall in the heptathlon with 4,362 points.
Dayton's 4x100 relay team (Liz Forster, Micella Davis, Lauren McCormick, and Brittany Thomas) placed fifth outdistancing five other teams in a time of 47.64 also recording a school record along the way.
Overall the Flyers performed strong with 16 season bests recorded at the meet.
Freshman Lauren McCormick recorded a time of 12.41 in the 100 meter dash, good for 14th place. Teammates Micella Davis and Emily Krizmanic posted season bests in the same event running in 12.84 and 13.04 respectively.
McCormick also recorded a season best time of 25.55 in the 200 meter dash, along with Lauren O'Brien who recorded a personal best of 26.12 to finish 20th.
Dayton had a strong presence in the 400 meter dash as Stacy Chew (57.44) and Liz Forster (57.56) placed in the top 10 for the sixth and eighth places respectively, while Lisa Aubry finished 11th in 58.48, all of which recorded their fastest times of the season along the way.
In the 800 meter, Kate Tejkl cracked the top 20 placing 18th out of 38 in 2:20.61 for a personal best time. Tejkl (4:48.45) finished 14th in the 1500 meter run, while Colleen Donovan (4:52.29), Bridget Conlon (4:52.54), and Jacqueline Jaworek (4:55.22) all finished with fast times in the event.
In the 5000 meter run, Dianne Striebel crossed the line in 13th place in a time of 19:02.31. Emily Deet (19:13.95) finished 16th and Alex Miles clocked in at 19:24.48, good for 19th place.
In other distance events, Anne Oltman placed 10th in the 3000 meter steeplechase with a 11:56.31 time.
In the hurdles, Andrea Cornell and Emma Steinmetz finished 11th and 14th , respectively in the 100 meter hurdles. Cornell ran in 15.22 posting a personal best, while Steinmetz finished in 15.99. Briona Gresham posted a time of 1:11.22 in the 400 meter hurdles as Chantee Mathews followed behind recording a time of 1:11.51.
In other relay action, UD's 4x400 relay team (Stacy Chew, Aubry, Steinmetz, and Forster) also placed fifth and ran their fastest time of the year at 3:56.10.
In the jumps, Andrea Funk and Megan Sweeney tied for ninth place clearing a height of 5-03.00 in the high jump. Candace McKinley (16-08.75), Funk (16-07.75), and Tara Hentgen (16-06.00) placed in 13th, 14th, and 15th respectively in the long jump.
Funk (36-11.50) finished in the sixth spot in the triple jump as Hentgen (35-03.25) finished 11th and Gresham (34-05.75) placed 15th.
In the throwing events, McKinley placed 16th in the shot put with her throw of 37-07.25. Molly McCarty (36-06.25) placed 18th. McCarty also threw a personal best in the discus (111-01) and placed 16th in the hammer throw (129-06).
Funk (83-09) and Krizmanic (81-04) finished 14th and 15th respectively in the javelin event.
Next up for the Flyers is the Stan Lyons Invitational on April 28. Dayton will travel to Indianapolis, Indiana to compete in the team's fourth outdoor meet of the year.
