ERIN SCHROEDER SIDELINED FOR 2008 SEASON

Oct. 2, 2008

DAYTON, Ohio - The University of Dayton announced that senior setter Erin Schroeder will miss the remainder of the 2008 season after suffering a tear to her anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) and meniscus during a match on Sept. 27 against Yale.

"It's unfortunate and disappointing," Flyer volleyball head coach Kelly Sheffield said. "Erin has meant a lot to this team and to this program. I am disappointed that I only got to work with her for a couple of months, because she is the type of athlete and competitor that I really enjoy coaching."

Schroeder, a 2007 AVCA All-America Honorable Mention and the 2006 Atlantic 10 Setter of the Year, was in the midst of her final season at UD. She is just the second student-athlete in Dayton Flyer volleyball history to record 1,000 digs and 1,000 assists in a career. In her collegiate career, Schroeder registered 3,579 assists, third-most in Dayton Flyer volleyball history.

"She came into the Flyer program as a walk-on defensive specialist and with hard work, athleticism and good coaching she made herself into an All-American caliber setter for a Top-25 program," Sheffield said. "It is a great story and she has had a great career."

Sophomore Kacie Hausfeld will step up as UD's setter for the remainder of the year. Hausfeld has played in 29 sets and has recorded 89 assists this season. Last weekend at the UAlbany Invitational, Hausfeld had a double-double in the loss to Albany after tallying 37 assists and 15 digs.

"Kacie is confident and very capable of leading this team," Sheffield said. "She makes great decisions, puts up a very friendly ball and the hitters love hitting off of her. She has a calming influence on the court."

The Flyers will open Atlantic 10 Conference play on Friday against the George Washington Colonials at 7:00 p.m. ET. Dayton will look to improve on its 9-6 record when it begins Atlantic 10 play against George Washington on Friday at 7:00 PM ET.

"The team has obviously had its fair share of injuries this season. But I've been very, very impressed with how they have responded in practice," Sheffield said. "The energy is high and players are working hard so that we continue to get better. We are all excited about starting the Atlantic 10 Conference part of our season and showing how deep, talented and resilient this team is."
