University of Dayton senior running back Ben Shappie was named Pioneer Football League Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Flyers to a 42-0 win over Campbell at Welcome Stadium on Saturday in UD's PFL opener. The 4-1 Flyers have had four PFL Players of the Week this season.
Shappie, a 2004 graduate of Versailles High School in Versailles, Ohio, tied the Dayton and PFL record for touchdowns in a game when he scored five TD's in the win. He carried the ball 17 times for a career-high 124 yards and caught one pass for seven yards, all without seeing any action in the fourth quarter.
The PFL's third-leading rusher (68.0 yards per game), Shappie has 220 yards in 33 carries (6.7 avg.) the last two games. He is also tied for second in the league in scoring (8.4 points per game).
Dayton stays home for its next game, playing host to the Drake Bulldogs on Saturday, October 11. Kickoff will be at 1 p.m. ET.
