UD'S PECHAN NAMED PIONEER FOOTBALL LEAGUE OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Nov. 10, 2008

A University of Dayton quarterback has been named the Pioneer Football League Offensive Player of the Week for the third straight game. In his first career start, redshirt freshman Jeff Pechan was selected after leading the Flyers to a 28-21 overtime at Butler. Pechan was starting in place of senior captain Rob Florian, who injured his hand late in Dayton's win at San Diego on November 1.

Florian was the PFL's offensive honoree after the San Diego game and UD's win over Valparaiso on October 25.

Pechan was 23 of 42 for 242 yards with two TD's and no interceptions. He also ran 15 times for 53 yards and a TD. In UD's game-winning series in overtime, Pechan accounted for all 25 yards gained. He ran for the first 10, and then hit Justin Millio on a corner fade for the TD to keep the Flyers undefeated in the PFL.

A 2006 graduate of St. Charles North High School in St. Charles, Illinois, Pechan had thrown just seven college passes heading into the game.

Dayton is 9-1 on the year and 6-0 in the PFL. The Flyers have won 12 straight conference games, which ties them with Albany of the Northeast Conference for the best conference winning streak in the NCAA's Football Championship Subdivision

The Flyers return home Saturday to host Morehead State at 1:00 p.m. ET. Saturday's game will be UD's Senior Day. The Lt. Andy Zulli Memorial Trophy, the character award that goes annually to a Dayton senior football player, will be presented at halftime.
