FLYERS DROP NON-CONFERENCE FINALE TO OHIO

ATHENS, Ohio - The University of Dayton Flyers fell in their regular season finale against the Ohio Bobcats 3-0 (21-25, 21-25, 17-25) at the Ohio University Convocation Center on Friday.

Middle blocker Bethany Akerhielm led the attack for the Flyers on Friday. Gaerke posted nine kills in the match. Lindsay Fletemier and Tiffany Gaerke also contributed to Dayton's offense in the match. Fletemier posted five kills while Akerhielm notched seven against the Bobcats.

Nicole Bateman led all passers with 16 digs against Ohio. Bateman also added seven kills and one service ace. Libero Mandy Robbe piled up eight digs and Kettering, Ohio native Kacie Hausfeld assisted on 25 points.

Gaerke tallied seven kills in the first set as the Flyers were downed by a set score of 21-25. UD hit a combined .053 in the first set with 17 digs, nine of those coming from Bateman.

The scoring evened out in the second set with Akerhielm, Fletemier, Bateman and Gaerke all posting three kills. Bateman added an additional five digs in the second stanza as the Flyers improved their hitting from .053 to .219.

Ohio pulled ahead early in the third set and remained in front for the duration of the match as Dayton fell 17-25.

The Flyers finish the season with a 21-12 record overall. Dayton will now await its fate on Sunday for an at-large selection in the 2008 NCAA Volleyball Championships. For the latest on the Flyers visit www.DaytonFlyers.com
