DAYTON, Ohio - University of Dayton head coach Rich Davis announced the addition of two recruits to the men's cross country program for the 2008 season on Friday. Both Greg Roeth, a soon to be graduate of Miamisburg High School, and Nick Esbin, of Sylvania North High School, have signed national letters of intent to join the roster next season.
"The talent and experience that Roeth and Esbin bring to the team will greatly enhance the solidarity of our pack, which includes two men who are both Atlantic 10 All-Conference and Rookie of the Year performers," said Coach Davis.
Roeth and Esbin have both competed in Ohio's Division I High School Cross Country Championships in their sophomore, junior, and senior years. Each has improved upon their 5K performances during their three consecutive trips to the State Championships. During their 2007 senior seasons, Roeth placed fifth in 15:34 and Esbin followed in 13th with a time of 15:51.
"Our team's competitiveness is ever-improving in the Atlantic 10 Championships and we are working for qualification into the NCAA Championships in 2008," said Coach Davis.
With the addition of these student-athletes the men's cross country program will continue to build upon a solid foundation in the upcoming year.
The Flyers will compete in a few spring track meets, but will kick off the official 2008 fall season with the Flyer 5K Challenge on August 30.
