June 20, 2008
The Stewart Street Bridge, the main connection over the Great Miami River between the UD campus and Interstate 75, will be closed for 18 months beginning on Monday, June 23.
It is recommended by the University and the City of Dayton that those looking to cross the river to access either UD or the Arena sports complex that includes Welcome Stadium, UD Arena, Time Warner Cable Stadium (baseball) and UD Softball Stadium take time to plan an alternate route that best suits them.
Electronic signs on I-75 and U.S. 35 will direct drivers to detours. In addition, multiple directional signs will be installed along the detour route through the Brown-Warren street business district leading to campus.
The bridge will be replaced with a $16.5 million six-lane, seven-span concrete box-beam bridge. The new Stewart Street Bridge is scheduled to reopen in December 2009.
