Dayton Head Coach
Rick Chamberlin
"Our opener went about how we thought it would. In the first game you are going to have some penalties or timing errors especially on offense. Defensively we took a few penalties that were not the "Dayton Way". We always feel the biggest improvement a team makes is before game one and game two. Now the players have been in game action and we can coach them up on film. There is an improvement there."
On Rob Florian... "I thought he was okay. It was his first game against a pretty athletic defense. That could be one of the tougher defenses we see this year with their size and their athleticism. Rob hung in there and made the passes when we needed them."
On Justin Watkins... "I can't say enough about Justin Watkins. He made a couple of big pass plays out there."
About being head coach instead of in the booth... "One of the big differences is being on the sideline. That is a new feeling for me to be able to call the defense from the sideline. It is just having to stay in tune the whole game as far as fourth down situations and punting situations."
About the transition from the Kelly era to the Chamberlin era... "We have always said this about our team. The success of the Dayton football program doesn't rely on one football player or even one coach."
