FLYERS FALL TO SEAHAWKS IN FIRST ROUND OF UNCW CLASSIC

Sept. 12, 2008

Box Score

WILMINGTON, N.C. - Dayton fell, 1-0, to UNC-Wilmington (2-3-0) in the Courtyard by Marriott/UNCW Classic Friday night at UNCW Soccer Stadium.

"I am disappointed in how our offense responded tonight," said UD head coach Dennis Currier. "We have to learn how to play on the road if we want to be successful."

The lone goal of the match was scored early in the second half in the 47th minute on an own goal. The Seahawks served a corner kick into the box and a UD player headed the ball into the net. The bad break meant the second loss of the season for Flyer men's soccer squad (2-2-1).

Both teams showed up ready to play with strong, stingy defense in the first half keeping the score 0-0.

Dayton out shot UNCW the entire game, tallying 12 shots to the Seahawks' eight shots.

Junior Ben Murray led the Flyer offense with three shots. Junior Alex Davis had three saves in goal for UD.

Dayton plays Coastal Carolina this Sunday, Sept. 14 at 1p.m. E.T. to round out their appearance in the Courtyard by Marriott/UNCW Classic.
